Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
The Blackademy Awards (“we”, “us”, “the site”) is an independent, community-run celebration of actors, filmmakers and artists of colour. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the rights you have over it. We are committed to collecting as little as we can.
Who we are
The Blackademy Awards is run independently and is not affiliated with any other award show or organisation. For any privacy question or request, contact us at contact@blackademyawards.com.
What we collect
When you sign in with a social account (such as Google), we receive and store only:
- your name, as provided by the sign-in provider;
- your email address;
- a profile image link, if your provider supplies one.
We also store the nominations and votes you submit. We never ask for or store your password — authentication is handled entirely by your sign-in provider — and we do not collect any payment information, because the site is free to use.
Why we collect it
- to let you sign in;
- to keep nominations and voting to one per person — your email is the unique key that prevents duplicate voting;
- to display and count nominations and votes.
Our lawful bases for processing are your consent (given when you choose to sign in) and our legitimate interest in running a fair, one-person-one-vote community award.
Cookies
We use a single essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We rely on a small number of service providers who process data strictly on our behalf: our sign-in provider (such as Google) to authenticate you, and our hosting and database providers (Vercel and Neon) to run the site and store data securely. Nominee names and images shown on the site are sourced from IMDb for identification only and are not your personal data.
Where your data is stored
Data is stored on secure servers in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). Our providers may process limited data in other regions under appropriate safeguards.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, nominations and votes for as long as needed to run the current and future award seasons, or until you ask us to delete them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — including under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR — you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, or to object to our processing. To exercise any of these, email contact@blackademyawards.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; the “last updated” date above will change, and significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
